Running in a wintery mix... My 5K

It was 10 am and it was raining. It was probably barely 40 degrees out.  I had my layers on and extras socks and shoes in the car. I tried to be as prepared as I could be.  The course had one major hill before even finishing the first mile.  When I rounded the corner and looked up at what I had to face I was in denial.  However, before I knew it I was at the top! I knew if I could get past that the rest of the race would be fine.  I had the hood of my windbreaker on in an attempt to block out the rain and sleet mix that was pelting me in the face.  Eventually I got heated up and had to take the hood and my gloves off.  At that point the cool temperature was welcomed by my body.  I always find the first mile is the hardest and then once I pass that I am fine.  That was the case for this run as well.

The first person that crossed the finish line finished in 18 minutes 11 seconds.  The time it took me to complete the race (net time) was 29 minutes 41 seconds. The time it took from the second the race started to when I crossed the finish line was 30 minutes 28 seconds. So, I was far enough back in the pack that it took me about a minute and some seconds to actually cross the starting line. I was very happy with this and I am proud of my body and proud of myself.  I love running because I don't think about anything besides what my body is doing and what music I am listening too.  It is a sweet relief from the every day stress!

I am looking forward to my next 5k in June, but I am looking to see if there is anything in May I can do!

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

What a great recap... Don't envy you having to run in rain & sleet, but happy for your accomplishment!
